20 Weeks, 5 Days
Well, folks. Now that I’m 20 weeks, 5 days in to meeting our little guy.
I have taken a [very] long blogging vacation. I decided to do this for a few reasons. Allow me to explain.
My big kid job got nuts. Having a training class back to back, every month has made it a bit hectic ’round these parts. I decided I needed to focus on my job that was producing a real life paycheck for awhile, and have some “me” time. Blogging is a fun hobby for me, so I really needed to evaluate what kinds of things I’d be talking about around here.
During that breather we got some exciting news…
We’re having a baby! A baby boy. I figure friends and family will want some updates about this since I’ve been fairly tight lipped on social media and in general (unless you work in my office or I talk to you often).
Were you trying?
Yes and no. We weren’t not trying. However, this isn’t our first rodeo being pregnant. Three months after we got married I found out I was pregnant at four weeks. We found out we’d had a missed miscarriage at around ten weeks (the baby had died at five weeks) and it was heartbreaking. Then, last year, we had what we and the doctor suspected was a miscarriage very early on. We didn’t really share that loss since I had no idea I was even pregnant. Since then, we have wanted a baby, but decided we would just let nature take its course. Finding out we were expecting this time after the loss(es) has kind of dimmed some of the “glow” that a lot of pregnant women have. I wouldn’t really allow myself to get excited since we’d had enough surprises. I feel a lot better now that we are officially half way through!
How did you find out?
My parents were in town from Arkansas for my Birthday. I had been very grouchy the entire time. So grouchy… On my actual birthday I decided to take a pregnancy test. I hadn’t missed my period, and I had no indicators that I was even pregnant, but I felt “off.” Jason had just run to the store to grab a few things, and I asked if he’d pick up a test for me. He got home, I took the test, and sat there in disbelief as the two pink lines showed up. I barely had my pants pulled up when I ran into the driveway to show Jason. I did the math, and I was three weeks pregnant! We went to the doctor the next week and he confirmed the September 27 due date. Last week we found out peanut is actually a BOY!
He’s about the size of a “small banana.” I’m not quite sure what that means… But he weighs almost 11 oz! Can’t really blame the baby weight on the actual baby at this point.
He’s moving around like crazy! Jason finally felt him move for the first time this morning. It was just a little nudge, but he finally felt him. When we went for our anatomy scan (we had it early at 18 weeks) he was breech. I swear I felt him flip over the morning before…Maybe not. But he’s rolling around in there.
How Mom is Feeling
Fine! I was a little nauseated for a couple of weeks right after we found out. Then, all of that disappeared, and I have been perfectly fine. I’ve been tired and grouchy, and I think being pregnant has been a bit overwhelming at times. Other than that, no one probably would have noticed I’m pregnant had I not just recently started showing.
At first, I wanted nothing but pancakes and pizza. After those first few weeks it turned in to me just wanting food RIGHT when I wanted it. I eat a bowl of Fruity Pebbles every single night. We’ve gone through a lot of cereal and milk. I also really want carbs. All the carbs. I’ve wanted a lot of food I can’t get here in AZ too. Like Damgood Pies, Wood’s Place Catfish, Monjuni’s lasagna and garlic bread with marinara, my Mawmaw’s chicken spaghetti. Luckily I can make chicken spaghetti…but it’s still not as good as hers.
Since I’m not actually in maternity clothes yet [and maybe I’m in denial], but my pants are tight, I purchased some Bellabands. I love them. I got a couple of the shorter ones in black and in white, and then I got the stronger ones in black, white and nude.
We’ve also been using Plated religiously. If you’ve never tried plated, I encourage you to do it! Even if it’s just one meal. We love, love, love it, and overall haven’t been disappointed with any of the offerings we’ve chosen.
Lush Bath Bombs and Bubble Bars are another must have. I’ve had some aches and pains and crampy feelings in general as everything grows in there. Hot baths (don’t worry, not too hot…) make everything feel a lot better being 20 weeks in to pregnancy. My all time favorite scent is Sakura. From the Bubble Bars I love the Rose Jam Bubbleroon. Recently, I also picked up A French Kiss and The Comforter Bubble Bars, as well as theRose Bombshell Bath Bomb.
Speaking of baths, I’ve been using the L’Occitane Almond Oil shower oil. I love to shave my legs with it.
I’ve picked up a few things here and there for him. I got him some onesies, pajamas and a bib from Baby Gap, and picked up a few things from Target-onesies mostly. I also got him some KicKee Pants pajamas with little guitars on them. Of course, he’s gotten some little Ralph Lauren Pajamas…I couldn’t resist…
Originally, I picked a conversion crib from restoration hardware. I had my mind made up. Until I started comparing prices. We went to Buy Buy Baby yesterday with the goal of completing something for the baby’s room since I had not been super eager to start decorating yet. When we got there, I decided we’d just go for it and get the crib and dresser! So, we have a bedroom suit! I think 20 weeks, 5 days in to pregnancy is a good time to start decorating.
Exciting Things so Far
Well, finding out that Peanut is a boy was pretty exciting. And every day I get more and more excited. Depending how you define “exciting” the fact that Sadie (the little gray schnauzer) has been bringing me dead birds is somewhat flattering.
So that’s all for now! I’ll try to update again next week.
